Recuerdos de Uvalde, Texas Volume # 1, is the first in a series on the people, places and events that have helped to shape the character and social relationships of Uvalde, Texas. While this rural Texas town 80 miles West of San Antonio has remained a fairly small community over the years, its largeness is manifested in the many accomplished people who have grown up or lived here over the years.
Among those who can claim Uvalde roots are former U.S. Vice-President John Nance Garner, former Texas Governor Dolph Briscoe, Jr., Hollywood actors, Matthew McCounaughey and Dale Evans, former world boxing champion Oscar "Shotgun" Alvarado, the members of the Grammy Award winning band Los Palominos, legendary dance promoter and career agent, Concha Vasquez, former bank robbers, The Newton Boys, singer Anna Roman and composer Pepe Sanchez.
But in addition to these notables, there are those individuals who, while not famous by traditional standards, do indeed have their own interesting stories to tell. This series hopes to capture the spirit and excitement of the regular everyday working person who lived and raised their family in Uvalde.
